Children in Changsha Form Crocodile On Leaving Memorial Hall. Five Young Chinese Boys Crouch In Circle.

Children in Changsha should be well informed about the Heroes Of The Revolution after their visit to the Memorial situated in a beautiful park in the city. School children leave Memorial Hall. Just as we arrived at the entrance to the hall, a crocodile of school children were coming out, under the watchful eyes of their teachers. They were very orderly but the curiosity of a few of them was too much to cope with, so they looked back at the foreign visitor they had just passed. There was much chattering amongst the children, but I doubt whether they were talking about The Revolution, or the photographs of the Heroes they had seen during their visit.

Zhong, Cheng-1, Cheng-2, and I spent some time in the park before returning to the exit gate, where another group of children were gathered, temporally free from the Group of young Chinese children gather for photograph. discipline imposed by their teachers. Some of the young boys were having a race with each other, but most of the children were gathered in a group, and as soon as I started to take some photographs, they rushed forward to get included in the shot, much to the alarm of my three companions who thought I might have been crushed in the stampede. Needless to say, I survived without injury to continue taking these treasured mementoes of my visit !

Children crouch in circle. Most Asian people seem to have an ability to crouch on their haunches with considerable ease. I have seen even older people meeting each other in the streets, particularly in the country towns and villages, who would quickly crouch while continuing their conversation, just as these five young boys were doing in the park. Whether they were settling their bets on the recent races, or playing a special game, I just don't know, but they were certainly getting quite excited.

Chinese school boy holds plastic bottle. On another day we took a taxi to the outskirts of the city and then went by cable car to the top of a mountain where I was surprised to find a small estate of newly built western type bungalows. When we got back down again this youngster asked Zhong if I would take a photograph of him. How could I refuse ?.
