The Dazu Buddhas Crescent North West Of Chungking: People's Income From Agriculture And Tourism; Rice Harvest: Spicy Fish Lunch
August, 1987.
The Dazu Buddhas crescent, isolated in the hills, is about 100 miles to the north-east of Chungking. Our journey to the Dazu buddhas crescent took more than four hours, but on the way we stopped for lunch, which included a very hot and spicy fish almost aflame with chillies, and then to watch a rice harvest and stone crushing. On the return journey we visited a farmhouse. At the time of our visit to the town in 1987, to see the dazu buddhas, there was not much industry in evidence, and the income of the families appeared to be derived from agriculture and tourism, the attraction for us being the buddhas carved in rock at Baoding. We found the people of the town to be very friendly.
